Latest Gadget Technology News & Releases

Chinese manufacturer ZTE has this week announced a pair of new Android tablets which look ready to set the bar when it comes to price and performance. There are a total of four new tablets from ZTE which were unveiled during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February, although the gadgets which will be getting the most attention are certainly the PF 100 and T98.

The ZTE PF 100 is set to be the trend-setter for the firm over the coming months as it sports a 1.5GHz quad core processor and HSPA networking for high speed internet access when out and about. Android 4.0 will be available to use straight out of the box, so there is no need to wait around for an update, as is a consideration with some other tablets from rival manufacturers.

The PF 100 has a relatively modest 16GB of storage allocated for the user to harness, but given that more and more people are simply streaming content from the web rather than capturing it to save on their device it seems unlikely that this will be too much of a limitation.

A 10.1 inch display with a decent resolution of 1280x768 will give the PF 100 plenty of room to showcase Android in all of its glory. Meanwhile the aforementioned quad core chip should make mincemeat of the homescreens, menus, apps and web browsing tasks so that there is little or no lag to spoil the experience.

ZTE`s second flagship tablet is the T98 and given its seven inch display it is unsurprisingly more portable and petite than its larger sibling. It still uses the same quad core CPU and so in terms of performance it should easily match the PF 100, which means you can choose between the two based on display size alone.

ZTE`s two alternate tablets to the PF 100 and T98 are a little less powerful, but still offer plenty of compelling reasons to give them a look.

The V96 is another Android 4.0 gadget and it features a dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and a five megapixel primary camera. Perhaps most important is the inclusion of 4G LTE networking, which will allow it to get online faster than its stable mates.

The ZTE V9S is the most affordable of the bunch, with a 1.2GHz dual core chip, 1GB of RAM and the same amount of storage space as the PF 100 and V96.

Further money has been saved by giving the V9S version 3.2 of Android rather than the later 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich edition. This does mean that it loses a few points when it comes to software, but it should otherwise be a fully functional tablet which appeals to the more budget-conscious buyer.

While the ZTE tablets might not change the minds of those contemplating iPad and
